Getting really bored of therapy

Posted by pinkeye on April 19, 2005, at 20:50:34

I am thinking I just need to get out of this whole therapy/self improvement/understanding self more business. It is about time.. And I don't particularly have any attachment to my T.. and I terminated to my old T anyway and there is no contact.

Maybe there are some things still to work on, but to hell with it.. I am just the way I am, and I don't want to change anymore.

I think that would be my favorite time to quit.

Boredom would be hte very best reason, with the least pain.

I don't blame you...
Change change change yeech.
How about some acceptance, though.
But wait
We can do that ;-)
I hope the day finally comes when I feel bored with therapy too.
When I can accept not having it.
Maybe this means...
You are learning to live with and accept yourself just as you are.

I dunno...

hmm.. Yeah. I am all ready to quit.

But maybe I need this support - there are some real big decisions coming up just around the corner, and I might need to move back to my country.. and I think I will go trhough hell during that time. So might as well keep it. Right now it is covered by my insurance also, so have got nothing to lose by going.

Yeah.. I have just given up on changing..No more changing business for me. Atleast nothing significant. And besides, I feel now I have learnt way too much - more than I would ever need for me. And more of it is just plain useless and it will just keep me regressed.

I think it is a shame when the focus is on change, change, change.
It gives the implicit message that you ARE NOT okay just as you are.
Which is a load of bollocks.
Sometimes it is helpful to focus on how far you have come and how you are ABSOLUTELY ACCEPTABLE JUST THE WAY YOU ARE. To consolidate the good through tough times. It makes sense to continue so as to keep that support there for you as you see some stressors ahead.

Take care :-)

Another perspective: sometimes when people get bored with therapy it's because they want to avoid talking about something difficult. Could that be the case with you?

I know you have some really difficult decisions coming up, so I think it makes sense to stay in therapy so that you have the support to help you reach those decisions.

Have you tried talking to your T about your feelings of boredom? She might have some interesting insights about it.

Ive seen my T only once and I am wondering if i should continue. He's nice and easy to talk to, but he says he doesnt want to delve into my past to find out what triggered my issues, but wants to help me with whats going on now. Im sure he could be helpful in some respects but I was kinda wanting to figure out why am i the way i am...is that an impossible task? This is the second T that has said there is no value to dredge up the past....is that true>>

That is a good point. I don't know if I am trying to avoid talking about something.. I never thought I am of that type. I can talk about almost everything.

In fact, today I had a therapy session and she cancelled it last week, but I totally forgot all about it until yesterday late night. I kept the alarm to wake up early and went to sleep and then realized that I don't have therapy today. That is the kind of indifference that I am getting to w.r.t therapy these days. And when I realized I didn't have to get up early to go to therapy, I was just so relieved. I hardly ever think about anything she said in the sessions, and I don't connect with her emotionally at all.. She is almsot like a perfect blank mirror, and I don't see any reaason why I should go and tell everything to a inhuman personality.. But she does help me and is very good in her insights. But I feel if I don't make any differene to her whatsoever and she doesn't make any difference to me whatsoever and there is no warmth and affections in the relationship, and I don't have too many issues to work on also, then why just bother?
