It is an MD, usually a psychiatrist, who prescribes medications for psychological disorders. We differenciate on this Board between pdoc and Therapist. That doesn't mean Therapists aren't psychiatrists...just that pdoc means used primarily for medications.

Hope this helps.
You must be on the west coast???

Thanks Daisy. I thought it might mean primary physician, and that made NO sense. It means prescribing physician, which makes a whole lot more sense. Pdoc is much better than pp ... probably ...well, depending on the day...

Actually, it's not 'prescribing physician' but 'psychiatric doctor'. As one could be receiving his/her prescriptions for psychiatric medications from their general practitioner (GP), but that wouldn't make the GP their pdoc.

Tho', when I told my pdoc that we referred to psychiatrists on the board as 'pdocs', he found it amusing, and followed with, "I thought a 'pdoc' was a urologist?" He has a goofy sense of humor at times. :-)

Yep - took me a while to get it. And I still sometimes don't, if I see something new.

But you'll catch on.

Seems there was a link *somewhere* on the board with explanations of a lot of these things. But I couldn't find it - perhaps someone else will chime in?
