Anyone heard of EFT?

Posted by Dinah on January 12, 2004, at 10:25:33

Supposedly it involves touching accupuncture points and humming and doing something else in sequence. I dunno. My brain is fried.

But the therapist who doesn't know if she wants to do EMDR with me thinks this might be a better modality. I don't even know what it stands for so I can't look it up. It sounds odd though.

I did a quick search, and came up with Emotional Freedom Techniques Therapy. Didn't look too much through the material, but here's a website that appears to sum it up.

Sorry this morning was so rough for you.

Thanks, Penny. That appears to be it, and I've bookmarked it. I have no idea why I'm so shaken, other than that I probably told her more than I wanted to tell her, especially in an interview. And having two therapists tell me EMDR might not be such a good idea for me really makes me feel fundamentally flawed. I know that that might not be a realistic assessment, but emotions are rarely rational.

Thanks again. (It looks odd from what I can see, and the inventor isn't a mental health practitioner)

Hi Dinah,

My therapist taught me EFT- it's easy. You can find find how to do it on line. EFT stands for emotional freedom technique. My EFT stuff is at home or I'd be able to tell you more.

Here's the crash course.

You start by saying "even though I have this (anxiety, fear, etc.) I deeply and completely accept myself." While saying it you tap various points on your face, upper body and hand you're not taping with.

My therapist completely believes in it and does it herself. It has definitely helped lessen my anxiety, because it helps me accept it, not be brought down by it.
