I'm feeling kinda unpopular right now

Posted by Racer on October 31, 2006, at 1:47:04

I know it's silly, but I'm kinda feeling neglected, or unpopular, or something. I've posted a couple of things on the psych board lately, and only gotten one or two responses to some of them. The last one was actually a big deal to me, because it was about a traumatic event -- OK, a nightmare -- and I was hoping to see what others had to say.

Now, I know this is silly. This is a bulletin board, it's not a cocktail party. And it's probably some combination of no one having anything to say, or my usual over-long post being too much for people to read. I don't know. Tonight, though, it's bothering me.

I think it's because my self-esteem is in a low patch right now. In fact, it's getting ruined, because I can't keep it from dragging on the floor. But I wonder if I'm doing anything "wrong," something that is keeping other people from responding to me?

I think I might want to know. But I'm not sure I really do... Be gentle with me, I guess...

Yeah I feel unpopular here most of the time, but hey. I don't really get the American way of being friendly, but I still post and stuff, I'm not particulary bothered about being popular - I've given that up circa age 6!! I'd rather have two close friends than a bunch of less close friendships.

I often only get two or three responses to threads, although i do ask quite specific questions about herbs usually. I wouldn't take it personally. Sometimes you get more, sometimes you don't. Perhaps enough time has not elasped? I've noticed that I'm quite often a 'thread-stopper' ie my post is the last one for quite along while.

Oh well.

Kind regards

Meri

Come join me on the comfy couch Racer, because I feel exactly the same way, and I was *just* telling someone about it. My self esteem hiccup is preventing me from posting at all. Thanks for drawing me out.

If I thank you now, you'll lose your reputation as the Thread Stopper!

Thanks, Meri. I appreciate your response.

We crossed posts, sweetheart. I only saw one post, and responded to it. I'm glad I checked back, though, because now I can answer you.

And I love calves liver. One of my very favorite foods. So, if you're organic and don't contain all those growth hormones and antibiotics and so on, then I guess that makes you feel like something I love, huh?

Racer, I can certainly relate to feeling unpopular here.... too unpopular to even read here mostly.

Thanks for drawing me out of my ever present cocoon (it's there even when I try my hardest to fly)

I've seen no indication that you are not "popular" here (but then, like I said, I don't read much)

Take care,
butterfly

Unpopular? I guess we all feel that way sometimes. I know I do. But I hope you give yourself a nice CBT reality check. :)

For example, I rarely respond to posts about certain topics, while I nearly always respond to posts about certain other topics, no matter who is doing the posting.

I'll confess to having posters whose posts and responses I look for to *read* for one reason or another. But I doubt that translates into how often I reply to those posters.

So doing a popularity check on Babble by how many responses you get might not be the best method, if there is a best method at all. One thing I like about Babble is that once people get to know someone, that someone tends to be valued by many for whatever it is that makes them them.

I hope you know that, in reality, you're not unpopular right?

I can't do fluffy stuff easily, but I hope you know you mean a hell of alot to me..

Nikki, who can really be a cruddy friend at times..

I'm as organic as the next human bean, I guess. Except for the titanium pins in my feet that keep my big toes on (gross!). Oh, and all the crowns and fillings I have in my mouth.

Yesterday was a grand day for a pity party for me and I celebrated suitably. Hence my pathetic post. I've got a severe outbreak of self loathing, and neosporin just isn't working on it.

Your feelings are *not* silly! They just *are,* as you well know - missy! (Damos - don't you read this and call me cheeky!)

I stayed away 'cause of the trigger warning (thanks, BTW) That "t" stuff (not therapist, the other "t") can get to me at times...

But I feel better now, so I'll go have a read.

I know I've been unpopular this week. But as someone said you can't please all of the people. I've received a lot of positive feedback. I need to focus on that. And Racer I haven't noticed what you're describing at all. Now I'm not talking about liver ickkk!!!Love Phillipa

Hi Racer,
I read your nightmare post, and I wasn't in a position where I was able to feel my OWN feelings, much less any empathy.

It's a complicated dream, and I think it was a little too close for me to comment on supportively.

When I post to you, I would want to say something of substance, but just scanning your post I knew that I was not ready to process it yet.

And I didn't want to say anything generic, because I respect you, and don't feel comfortable posting things that don't feel sincere.

that's all- I'm sorry if it felt like people were ignoring you. I think you were on a different level than I was that week.

Sorry you (and the other thread contributors) are feeling low right now. You are ALL wonderful folks, and I'd eat pancakes with you all in a jiffy. organic free-range pancakes. With BUCKETS of real Maple Syrup (I like grade B- has more mapliciousness).

Cats invited? my cat would appreciate the chopped liver, I'm sure. If in the form of "pate" I will join in too
