I found out how much I really suck at golfing. I was so embarrassed. I went with my brother in law and two of his buddies. I only lost six balls, which isn't the worst for as many strokes as I had, but I can't hit a ball straight or get any distance to save my azz.

I think golfing is one of those things that is just much harder than it looks... at least from my perspective. It seems like "how hard can that possibly be?" but somehow, it is. It's not just you.
If it makes you feel any better, I refuse to go golfing myself. That included mini golfing. I cant get the correct grip of the club down right.. I just want to hold it like a field hockey stick (I played for years). Pffftt.
For me (and it sounds like for you as well) there are just other things that are more important. It's okay not to be perfect at everything.

I used to have to play with my dad and older brother and uncle who were all rather good and I was a danger to anyone standing to the right of my intended trajectory. I hated it.
Then one day, playing in my school's golf day with all the other teachers, as soon as we got out of sight off the clubhouse all the "vets" pulled their sixpacks out of their backs and I suddenly found a way to enjoy playing golf.

Harder to hide the beer, but I'd say yes. You could stock up on those little "airplane" bottles of liquor instead.
