We should do something about Pluto...

Posted by Racer on August 24, 2006, at 13:17:26

We should invite Pluto to join us here. Talk about massive blows to self esteem! I've never even met Pluto, and I'm hurting for it...

Actually, it kinda upsets me, or makes me sad, or something. I felt so secure, knowing there was a planet called Pluto out there, beyond what I could see.

Don't ask me what I'm talking about. I don't really know.

EIGHT planets in the solar system?

Poor Clyde W. Tombaugh. He discovered the *planet* in 1930 and now they take it away from him.

((((Clyde))))

Aw...

Yeah Pluto, your orbit isn't *wrong*...

It's just *different*.

My very educated mother just served us nachos..

It's just not right, somehow.

Pluto, you have seasons, and an atmosphere. We still love you, Pluto. You're still part of the system, no matter what they "label" you. A rose by any other name is still a rose.

Never take what scientists say too seriously. In the end, they are always wrong. Pluto can be whatever we want it to be.

I always feel sorry for Pluto he has to wear a dog collar and be Mickey's pet, while Goofy wears clothes and is Mickey's friend. Talk about self esteem issues.

My husband is really upset about Pluto. He keeps on asking me to explain it to him. I give up. Who cares about the intricacies of planetary definitions, or the astronomy governing body, or council of wizards, or whoever deemed Pluto unworthy of planetary status.

Repeat after me:

In this house, Pluto is still a planet.

Now go eat a chunk of banana bread. I made it just for y'all, for being so good to me lately :o)

I mean, if they just would have stopped harping on, over and over and over, about Plutonian enrichment, astronomers might not have even noticed it (Pluto). I think Pluto was doing just fine on its own -- it didn't need enriching.

I'm not tooooooooooo sure what's up with Pluto...

I heard it was that the orbit is wrong...

No, sorry, *different* ahem.

Then I heard that the trouble is that planets are supposed to clear other large bodies (or whatever) out of their orbital path. But... Pluto didn't do that.

(Maybe those issues are related... I don't know that it has a proper orbital path)

So maybe... Pluto just wasn't assertive enough.

We could email Pluto and tell it that we still think it's a planet, that it can't let a group of astronomers tell it what it is. Also, it has lots of support back here on earth, people who care what it's going through.

It can't post more than three consecutive posts on pbabble, though, no matter how upset it gets about the situation. Also Civility. Pluto needs to remember the civility rules, if it gets involved.

There are lots of med combinations that it could try, if it can't overcome the sense of emptiness and meaninglessness that might engulf it. We can refer it to the meds board, for that.

If Pluto can find new outlooks, and new paths for fulfillment, and perhaps stop worrying about whether some astronomers in Prague think it's a planet. it can feel good about itself, whatever it is.

Well, the Wall St. Journal reports that the American Federation of Astrologers, and the British Astrological Assoc. are standing firm on Pluto. Although they warn that scorpios must be very cautious for the next few days (?). Also, one said that whether pluto is a planet, an asteroid, or a radioactive matzoh ball, "he" has tremendous power over people's lives-- so there!

However, Laura Bush, Hilary Clinton and Condoleeza Rice must all be watched closely-- for possible explosiveness-- as scorpios will be under greater than usual stress. Gosh, three of the most controlled people I can think of. This must be a trying time.

Astrologers in favor of the influence of minor orbiting thingies however are delighted with this turn of events-- because it elevates Xena and Ceres, XB313 and Charon to greater renown.
