I do my own version of Orthomolecular. 4 b-100 capsules per day (2 am, 2 PM, both with food), 6 grams niacinamide (the "other" b-3, no flush; 1.5 gram sustained release tablets, 2 am and 2 PM), high dose C (up to 15 grams time release--7 grams AM, 8 grams PM), other stuff (green tea extract, grape seed extract, natural form E, etc.).
Anyway, I was just reading how smoking (trying to quit) and anticonvulsants (I'm on 2--trileptal and low dose lamictal) can deplete folic acid like crazy. B-100s only provide 100% folic acid per capsule. I figured that even w/ 4 of them, with the pills and the smokes, I could be running a deficiency.
So, I ordered some (surprisingly cheap) folic acid the last time I restocked vitamins. I now take 4 of those w/ each AM and PM dose up, so that's a total of 8 milligrams folic acid, on top of everything else. I also added in Biotin (pure vanity), 10,000 micrograms per dose, AM and PM, and extra B-6 (an additional 100mgs capsule AM and again PM).
I'm happy to say...I feel better. Less lethargic, more focused. I don't know if its the extra vitamin per se, or if maybe the extra vitamins are really helping the Rx meds work better (I take 400mgs Wellbutrin SR, so the added energy and focus could be from making the wellbutrin more effective). At any rate...I'm pleased.
I think b-vitamins may well be under-rated. They tend to be cheap, too, so that's a definite plus.
Hope this helps somebody!

I have tried high dosages of B vitamins, but not as high as you. Maybe I'll go back and try your formula at some point.
Thanks.

just try reading up on Orthomolecular. doctoryourself.com has some good info, there are other sites as well. Just be sure to take a lot of C (I prefer time release, personally) with your B vitamins.
This is the end of the thread.
