I am actually surprised by the effect of lithium orotate. The 5mg elemental feels like about 75mg of carbonate.

Linkadge,
I'm glad to hear that the effects of lithium orotate seem to be to your liking. Would you describe the effects that you're noticing from lithium orotate as being anti-manic effects, anti-depressant effects, or both? Do you plan on taking lithium orotate long term?

It seems a wee bit more antidepressant than lithium carbonate. But, it does feel like lithium (having taken lithium...up to 1500mg at one point).

Link,
How are you doing on Li orotate?
And what do you make of the studies linking lithium levels in the water supply to suicide rates ie. more lithium, less suicide.

Hello,
can somebody tell me why Lithium Orotate should be any "safer" than prescription lithium? I mean if lithium has side effects then why should orotate be a safer choice?

Kilo8,
I think an argument can be made that the recommended doses of lithium orotate are likely to be safer than therapeutic doses of lithium carbonate because recommended doses of lithium orotate contain less elemental lithium than therapeutic doses of lithium carbonate. With lithium orotate products, the recommended dose seems to fall between 5 and 15 mg of elemental lithium. A 900-mg therapeutic dose of lithium carbonate, on the other hand, contains about 170 mg of elemental lithium. So, following that argument, recommended doses of lithium orotate might seem likely to be safer than therapeutic doses of lithium carbonate, but at the same time, lithium orotate might conceivably affect the body differently than lithium carbonate does. This would probably make it difficult for anyone to make any statements about the safety of lithium orotate that are 100-percent definitive.
I could be wrong, though, as my knowledge of chemistry is not very extensive.

I think i took 50mg lithium carbonate with similar results like lithium orotate so if you worry about it you could do that.
All depends on what you want it to do.
Anti manic at that dose? No. Suicidal or homocidal tendencies, id say with 50mg YES.
This is the end of the thread.
