It varies from person to person. I used to go to a doctor who prescribed vitamin B12 shots for many of her patients. They did a world of good for some of them, but they just made me wired, and when they wore off, I'd feel exhausted.

The B12 I now take is sublingual methylcobalamin. The tablets are 1000 mcg, but if I take this dose several days in a row, I start to feel overly stimulated, so I usually just take one-quarter tablet a day.

Metafolin is an activated, more potent form of folic acid. If I take too much of this, it decreases my libido, just like an antidepressant. But you may be able to tolerate much higher doses of B12 and folate than I can. Start with low doses and gradually increase them.

I just take the amounts in a time release b-100 complex. I take that 1 or 2x daily, depending on how I feel.

Good luck!

Thanks, Hugh. I currently take 400mcg of metafolin but I'm going to try increasing to 800mcg. I've actually never tried the methyl version of b12 and plan on switching to that as well. When I first started 1000mcg of b12 I really noticed an increase in energy but that seemed to fade.

Thank you! Glad to hear your ortho approach seems to be helping you. I wish more doctors were knowledgeable about alternative or complimentary approaches. I really do believe with the right supplements you can reduce doses or number of meds, at least that's been the case for me.
