...and the results have been fantastic! I already get 100mgs/day in a time-release b-100 complex. I was feeling down, so I added in an additional 300mgs with 100mgs capsules from vitacost.
So far, so good. A little bit of stomach irritation and I hate 3x daily dosing, but...AWESOME! Just what the (orthomolecular) doctor ordered! More energy, brighter mood, better concentration!
I hope this continues. I may very well ask for an AD just to make sure this "anergic depression" goes away, stat.

Christ_empowered,
I'm glad to hear that you've been noticing good things from taking high-dose vitamin B6, but please be aware that you're exceeding the FDA's "safe upper limit" of 100 mg of the vitamin. According to Katan (2005), there have been "occasional reports" of vitamin B6 toxicity from patients who were taking 100-300 mg of the vitamin daily. I don't know what the odds are of developing toxicity symptoms at 400 mg of vitamin B6, but I tend to think that the dose is likely unsafe if toxicity reports have come in from patients taking 100-300 mg of the vitamin.
I hate to be a bummer and to tell you that what you're doing might not be safe, but I would think twice (or at least check things over with a qualified health professional) before continuing on with your current dose of vitamin B6.

>Actually, I don't know if it's the FDA or the Institute of Medicine that set the safe upper limit for vitamin B6 (I tend to think it's the latter), but I do know that the safe upper limit of the vitamin in the U.S. is 100 mg.

I was feeling better, so quickly! This is lame. Oh well. I can just take 1 additional capsule (100mgs) plus the time release b-100 (contains...you guessed it...100mgs/b6, plus lots of other stuff at high doses) and see how that goes.
Maybe its time for an antidepressant, afterall....
Thanks for the heads up!

Sometimes I'd take 30mg p5p with a protein shake.
Seemed like a good idea.

> Seemed like a good idea.Great point. p5p would be so much better absorbed, a moderate dose (30-50mg) should be just as powerfull as 300mg standard B6.
Also B6 in too large a dose causes the very same effects you get from deficiency- numbness or tingling in the hands/feet. Everything returns to norm when u stop.
I had B6 deficiency when I started phenelzine. 100mg B6 did indeed get rid of the numbness, but as I carried on taking B6 the numbness came back a few months afterwards. I dropped to moderate dose supplementation and all was well.
This is the end of the thread.
