I am taking conventional meds (was trying amino acids but decided I needed to treat the acute depression asap because I have a baby and need to get myself together and take care of him). Doc has me now on pristiq every other day, adderall 10mg and vyvanse 30mg, and requip 5mg (at night for mood and ssri sexual dysfunction), memantine for stimulant tolerance. Things were going well but the stimulants began to stop working last week (I do take a day or two off every week) and asked doc about a change and he told me to wait but today I am so so depressed and feel so stuck. I have a very long day with my baby who is very fussy and my husband won't be home in such a long time, and I would like to take something along with my meds - dlpa, ginko biloba, 5htp, l-theanine, l-tyrosine, rhodiola rosea, or anything! I have a bunch of things I bought, but don't know what will help. I am so depressed and know I need to see my shrink, but just need to make it through today if anyone has any thoughts on any kind of way to pick myself up even for a short while to make it through today and take care of my baby. I just want to crawl in bed and hide, and cry under the covers. Any suggestions on any of these for a quick pick me up, I'm so depressed! I know that with the adderall I need to watch my bp, and have a cuff and will watch, but am desperate to get out of this hole. Please help! Thank you!

L Methylfolate!!! A friend of mine just suggested it after he has had success with it. I've been taking it for 3 days, combining it with Serofin SJW, and I think it's making a difference. I use Solar brand and right now I'm taking 3.2 mg. I may up the dose in the short run, I may not. In the long run I will eventually lower the dose after my brain heals some and I get back to normal function. Deplin, the prescription l methylfolate, is given to people on antidepressants to improve their efficacy. L methylfolate improves the function of monoamines-serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine.
Are you taking fish oil?
I wouldn't do 5htp, I'm just not a very big fan of it.
DLPA, ginko biloba, and rhodiola are all worth a shot. Take them each by themselves so you know what is doing what.
You may want to consider at some point switching to a good SJW brand like New Chapter Serofin, Kira, or Perika. I've been on SSRIs my whole life and so far Serofin feels just as powerful and effective as any of them were, especially with some l methylfolate combined. My friend is taking 5.6 mg of methylfolate I think, so you can go pretty high if necessary. I believe Deplin is 7 or 8 mg of methylfolate.
Good luck!

Thank you Morgan. I didn't have any folic acid, but I took a multi b vitamin after reading your message. I might ask my doc too about the prescription strength. I did also try dlpa, and rhodiola, and l-theanine. I still feel like crying like crazy, and while my baby was crying like crazy instead, I missed my doc's call back. So I feel a little desperate. Another day tomorrow!

Pick up some l methylfolate at your local health food/vitamin store. Start out with 3.2 mg or so and stay there for a week and see how you feel.
Maybe it's time to get off Pristiq(or was it Effexor?) and try something different. I've heard good things about the combination of Zoloft and Nortriptyline.
So do you take fish oil?
Have you tried Magnesium glycinate?
New Chapter Holy Basil may help stabilize you until you get things figured out.
