Bad reaction to Taurine and N-Acetylcysteine

I dont know if it was because I'm also taking St John's Wort, and the combination didnt agree with me? But last night was scary.

Been having good results taking st johns wort for the past 3 mos for panic disorder/anxiety. however i still have bad days where driving or leaving the house is rough.

So my alternative DR gave me Matagenics brand, Trancor - which contains Taurine and N-Acetylcyteine, for GABA and Glutaime balance. last night I felt like my central nervous system was so depressed, it seemed like i was barely breathing, I was so out of it, felt like i was drunk and on drugs, after taking only one capsule of Trancor. (serving size is 4 capsules)

I wonder if it was a combination of the Trancor with St John's wort? I'm not trying it again though.

Before I tried St john's I tried Tryptophan, L-Theanine, and now Taurine, and all of them I felt awful on.. really didnt help my anxiety.

I'm trying to find something to enable me to drive and live my life normally without taking Xanex and Klonopin from time to time when I need it. Or go on anti-depressants, which my therapist is encouraging me to do.

I feel like I'm using myself as a science experiment. What has helped me is Niacinimide, although soemtimes it doesnt seem as effective, but i'm only taking 500 mg at a time. B vitamins help too. But those days when the anxiety is high.. ugh... what else is there???

You seem to mostly be trying supplements that influence GABA. Everything that positively affects GABA to produce an anxiolytic effect will usually only be a short term solution to anxiety. I would look at a completely different method of influencing anxiety. BDNF (Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor) is implicated in anxiety and depression, whilst we know quite a lot about the brain we are at least I believe quite a long way from determining all the factors that produce depression and anxiety. Also we will find genetic variances which cause some people to be almost immune to anxiety and depression and others to be quivering wrecks. If you have bad genetics then that's life but you can positively influence your state with the right nutrients etc.

So if you wish to go down the route of increasing neurogenesis in the brain and increase BDNF then there are some things you can try.

The first is the most difficult :

1. Exercise
2. Take the most bioavailable Curcumin you can find.
3. Eat lots of blueberries

I can't guarantee that the above information will reduce your anxiety, however exercise and blueberries certainly shouldn't decrease your health, and curcumin has other benefits in reducing pain and inflammation. The other nutrients mentioned above are certainly good for health, acetyl l-carnitine must be used wisely at certain dosages it reduces anxiety and at larger doses it can increase anxiety.

Good luck with whatever you try.
