strange. did i dream that kava was no longer suspected to cause cases of fatal liver disease, but that it was some other chemical in the extraction or preparation process?
i'm finding no information right now, but mind you, i'm at the same level of observational capacity i always am. maybe i missed it.

This is a simple question to answer in my case.
I sometimes buy pure Kava root from realkava.com (these are good guys and I'd recommend them any day of the week, month or year), this is full potency kava root. I blend it with water and add some Lecithin. I've taken it plenty of times and so far I haven't died from liver failure.
The strongest way I found of utilising Kava was to blend it with milk instead of water and add some Ginger and a couple of tablespoons of Lecithin, then I'd leave it in the fridge for about 8 hours then drink it.
The simple way to buy kava is buy powder from Vanuatu, the Fiji stuff is too weak in my opinion. Kava is still quite weak in it's effects, I found I needed more than the recommended dosage to get effects that were strong enough. I never tried the instant kava powder but it says on the realkava site it's twice as potent as the raw root, so if Vanuatu powder isn't strong enough I'd probably say go try the instant stuff.
Don't expect anxiety relieving miracles from Kava, for me it was never as strong as taking something like Diazepam, I rarely take Kava now and it's not the first thing that would come to mind to relieve moderate to severe anxiety. Alcohol is far more potent than Kava at relieving anxiety but it has very obvious negative aspects. i.e. you can't drive or rather musn't, using alcohol to relieve anxiety is a very bad idea, addiction potential is massively increased with all manner of possibilities to ruin your life.
I have no problem in saying try Kava if you really want to, it's not expensive and it does have an effect if you buy decent stuff.
This is the end of the thread.
