I buy pure ground root from realkava. It's very high quality root, I wanted to try and prepare it the same way as the locals would who use kava every day. Alcohol or a benzo are much more anxiolytic in my opinion than kava, kava can take the edge off anxiety a little though.

That is an old study, but the extraction method IS very important. Also, I read that using Kava root only is important. No stems, or leaves allowed.
