For those of you who have a mood disorder accompanied with a lot of mental fatigue and low energy including seasonal affectives, omega-3 fish oils definitely helped my mood. However, in my experience, if I was having low energy and I took fish oils alone my depression would get worse, not better. So, I found that other supplements needed to be taken with the fish oils, namely, B1, B5, vitamin C, and acetyl-l-carnitine (for energizing the mitochondria). This seems to work for me so far. So it's not only about controlling mood, but also balancing your energy levels. Also, I found that I could only tolerate 1 or 2 fish capsules a day for a week or two. Then I had to take a break and not take the fish oils for a while until my bad moods returned. I think, but I'm not certain, that the fish oils build up in your brain, so if I took a break from them for a few days, my mood was still okay. I must also mention that I am already on a prescription mood stabilizer which has to be taken every day no matter what. No breaks from the meds. I just think the fish oils help a little more with mood. I learned that the best results from clinical trials with fish oils was that 1,000mg a day of EPA and DHA had the best results, and anything over 1,000mg didn't help further. However, I can't take even close to 1,000mg a day, but that's just me. I have a lot of low energy during the summer months, so I have to take B1 (thiamine) 200mg, B5 (pantothenic acid) 100mg, vitamin C 500mg, and some Acetly-l-carnitine 250-500mg. Hope this information is helpful to some of you.

by saying mental fatigue do you mean anything near what i expressed in my post below (about supplement companies)? (life destroying executive dysfunction, negative symptom like catastrophe.)
should i try EPA/DHA? (i am vegan so i have only one option that includes actual EPA) what is the EPA:DHA ratio of your product
(also do you have clumsiness, a fogged-in mind, and a feeling of stiffness you sometimes swear must be related to parkinsons, inability to maintain proper hygiene clothing and living-space, hoarding, undescribably wierd skin sensations, post-med-discontinuation akathisia, paradoxical disinhibition coupling with the mental paralysis, and episodic inner feelings of rage and need to fight, fear of people and harsh judgment that keeps you away from meaningful social interaction)
if you can read all of this, i am so grateful.

It sounds like you have frontal lobe dysfunction from all your symptoms. Have you talked with a doctor about the best meds that would help with this conditon? Frontal lobe dysfunction has been seen in those who have dementia, epilepsy, brain lesions or trauma, and schizophrenia. I couldn't tell you how well fish oils would benefit you for this condition, but if you want to know what the best fish oils with a high EPA:DHA ratio are, then probably OmegaBrite is the best. They have a website. I think you can only order them online, as I haven't seen this brand in any of the vitamin stores. Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

Just wanted to comment further. You might want to ask your doctor for some type of mood stabilizer/anticonvulsant. I take Lamictal 200mg per day. This med helps with depression and mental fatigue also. Some vitamins that help with mental fatigue are B1, B5, B12, and vitamin C. Also, Provigil is a drug prescribed for narcolepsy that is also GREAT for mental fatigue in my experience. Also, the fish oils do tend to help with mood control, but I only take them at night before bedtime as they tend to make my depression worse if I take them during the day. Hope this helps.
