Hiya,
My flatmate has got the sniffles, some kind of minor cold.
At the moment I'm taking a herbal blend (prescribed to me by a herbalist) containing:
rosemary, dimiana, ginkgo, schizandra, and sib ginseng
I typically take 5ml in total of this mixture.
I read somewhere that sib ginseng is contra-indicated in the acute phase of infections.
I haven't got my flatmates sniffles yet, but should I keep taking with the above info in mind?
I guess although I might not have the sniffles yet, my immune system could be trying to fight it off.... so should I avoid the herbs?
Kind regards
Meri

Sambucol has been tried and tested and has some clinical trials confirming it's effectiveness.

I have some and it does seem to work, and a lot better than Echinacea which is another plant which is supposed to help ward off colds.

Oh thanks, I'll definately buy some, trouble is I live in Finland now and doubt I can get my hands on the stuff. I'll try posting a topic on a Finnish forum that i'm on.
You don't happen to know if sib ginseng is fine to take with a cold do you?
Kind regards
Meri

Well you learn something new everyday...
I didn't know elderberries where mildly poisonous when uncooked. I remember eating them as a child! Explains alot!
I love elderflower cordial.
I just emailed the manufactors of that Sambucol stuff, to see where they stock it in Finland....thanks very much for the link! I'm very keen to try the stuff....it also fits into my idea of a 'safe' medicine, because I have some unfounded fear that I'm allergic to certain things (which I'm not) and I know I can take this product because I have eaten a) elderberries and b) drank elder flower cordial, so i doubt I'd get some weird allergic response to it!
Kind regards
Meri

Astragalus shouldn't be used in the acute stage of infection, but I've not heard this about siberian ginseng.
Andrographis and olive leaf are popular for colds and flus these days.
This is the end of the thread.
