Lets say you ate tons of foods which contained tryptophan each day. What is the maximum amount of tryptophan a person could obtain through diet?

Link,
Read about this issue, its quite fascinating.. the problem is not volume of tryptophan but competition with other amino acids... when u consume tryp with other amino acids, they compete for binding sites at the blood brain barrier (BBB)... and other amino acids win out... but when u take tryp alone, its wins without a battle... they employ this empirically using something called a tryptophan challenge, u can read all about it in the literature.. quite cool...

The reason I ask is because in Europe they seem to think about tryptophan and 5-htp differently. Apparently there is a theoretical risk that ingesting too much serotonin precursor could dammage the heart. Supposedly they administer these with agents that prevent too much serotonin from accumulating in the periphery.

You could be right. I guess I was just assuming that it would apply to tryptophan as well. I'd be more comfortable consuming tryptohpan if this is not the case.
