adenosine monophosphate

Posted by corafree on June 17, 2006, at 16:57:54

I have an article about adenosine monophosphate in a sublingual form called Myoden.

I am wondering if it is 'the conqueror' of the evil appetite-stimulating properties of so many psych meds.

Anyone know?

thanks, cf

No I don't Cora, but there is a form of adenosine triphosphate bonded to some plant ligand(?) making absorption from the gut possible.
It kept me awake (of course) and is supposed to increase ATP levels and help prevent sun related skin damage.
Weight loss might be a possibility through metabolic stimulation?

Yes Declan, I think that's what this article is saying ... weight loss by increasing metabolic function.

It reads ... AMP (adenosine monophosphate) is directly involved in many normal biochemical processes including protein synthesis (intermediate to Krebs cycle), and is a precursor to the energy carrier molecule ATP. It is also a key component in certain enzyme reactions necessary for proper fat and carbohydrate metabolism.

It mentions correcting low energy production due to mitochondrial dysfunction.

AMP is converted to ATP by the enzyme ATPase.

The New England Journal reports that ATPase levels are 22% lower in overweight subjects. Low levels of ATPase may predispose people to be overweight.

Supplementing w/ AMP could increase calories burned by pumping sodium and potassium across cell membranes, thereby increasing energy and metabolic function.

Published uses include: auto-immune disorders, memory loss, stress, varicose veins, muscle and joint pain, chronic fatigue, and of course energy production.

Someday ... I HOPE sooner than later ... there will be treatment available to counteract the dreadful side effect of weight gain in psych meds.

tks, cf

Hi Cora

You might like to go to the LEF website (www.lef.org) and use the search engine there to look up pinolenic acid.

(It should be there; it's in the latest LEF magazine. If not, try googling it.)

Pinolenic acid is from the Korean Pine Nut.
