Okay after ALOT of confusion with my Kira 300mg one-a-day formulation (bought at Boots in the UK), I can now safely say that THIS IS TOO LOW A DOSE.
The packet says only one should be taken a day, (giving you 300mg of extract) but the dose used in research etc is actually 900mg. So you need three a day, instead of the one a day they are suggesting you take. They are basically doing this for legal reasons, as this is the OTC range they have in Germany - if yhou need the 900mg level you need to get this from a GP.
Anyway I emailed the company and this is what they said verbatium:
'Hi,
Thank you for your e mail regarding the St Johns wort, the One a Day 300mg tablet contains 900 ug hypericum per tablet, the recommended daily allowance. However it is safe to increase the dosage to three tablets maximum for a few days if you feel particularly low.
The Old St John Wort variant 300mg tablet taken 3 times per day contained only 300ug hypericum per tablet, these have now been delisted.'
Also if you go to http://www.sjwinfo.org/ there is a discussion forum which addresses this confusion.
If amyone is concerned, then I would ask your GP about your dose and see if you can raise it the theraputic level. Thats what I am going to do anyway.
