I tried green tea for the first time and liked it. It is relaxing and yet mood lifting at the same time. I can feel the GABA part of it and the dopamine part of it from the L-theanine in it. The problem is, it was a bottled brand I bought just to sample from the supermarket and it was $1.89 for one drink. Yikes.
I think it would be better and a lot cheaper to brew it myself. But, from what I have read, the L-theanine content of different brands can vary a lot and not be dependable. So I'm wondering, does anyone know of a good reliable brand of green tea? I would rather get some good advice here rather than have to sample every brand on the shelf.

Japanese sencha. Any loose leaf japanese green tea. White tea, again loose leaf. I like oolong, but that's chinese and black. Nice taste, similar to japanese green tea with toasted rice. Asian shops are a good source.

In my opinion the best green tea is from Japan. Not sure about the brand but I remembered the import stuff had a cleaner feeling. It wasn't much more in price than the store-bought stuff.
But I should shut up on the subject since green tea isn't a good fit for me. I find it too stimulating. Sometimes even a small amount of green tea will give me the shakes. The flavored favorites (jasmine for example) were the most agitating.

I didn't read Declan's post recommending Japanese green tea before I posted.
I guess I should read the entire thread before giving repetitive answers. Like the way I read the instructions AFTER I assemble a perfectly good, non-working, model or hitch the horse BEHIND the cart.
