Anyone know of an effective alternative to prescription medicine for hyperthyroidism? Also for hypothyroidism? I'm asking for myself and a friend. Thanks.

L-Carnitine has been studied and been found to be an effective treatment for hyperthyroidism.

See: http://thyroid.about.com/ Tons of info there, including message boards, and Mary Shomon, the "guide" has written a very popular book on hypothyroidism.
I straightened out my mild case of hypothyroidism with tyrosine and magnesium. Maybe other things that I took too, such as selenium.

I've also read to be careful what you are eating; go low carb and cut out preservatives.
