Every so often, I come across an article about evening primrose oil that warns against using it if there is a concern about breast cancer. Women who've had breast cancer and/or those who have a family history of breast cancer are cautioned against using EPO. Have any of you heard about this? Is there any merit to this?

Hi -
been looking this up as well - can't find any solid evidence. Remember finding one post somewhere on some forum that reported fluid retention from overuse of EPO, supposedly I think due to its estrogenic effects.
However there seem to be quite a few blokes taking it and they haven't grown breasts so it can't be that bad, unless I suppose you take a huge amount. But then isn't flax seed oil supposed to have 'estrogenic properties'as well? Lots of bodybuilding men take this - don't see much feminine bulges about them do you? - how could it be estrogenic?
Also surely an estrogenic oil would make you put on fat, not lose it? I know Louise Gittleman (I think that's her name) is huge fan of EPO and various other EFAs to ahem, 'switch on fat burning brown fat' or such-like. Not sure about that, but I find it very good for my mood problems.
Hmmm. Then again, as it relieves PMT it must be either hormone-balancing or estrogenic.
???
Soz.
