Picamilon and asthma?

I know that Picamilon is a vasodilator. Would that make it contraindicated for someone with asthma to take?

Hi Kara

I was interested in following this up too. I found this article:

http://ajrccm.atsjournals.org/cgi/content/full/158/1/153

When I took serotonin medications I noticed I had an increased tendency to bleed and also experienced more exercise induced asthma. Perhaps the serotonin also increases vasodilation.

Interesting article. Thanks.

I think that from the following conclusion of their's:

"It is therefore difficult to determine whether vasoconstrictors or vasodilators should be explored as potential therapeutic agents in asthma."

that it's unknown whether Picamilon would be good or bad for an asthmatic. I haven't experienced asthma while on an SSRI so I can't add anything on that - though I'll probably be going back on an SNRI soon so we'll see.

Thanks again,
Kara

Kara, I just found a reference to serotonin being a vasoconstrictor!
http://web.indstate.edu/thcme/mwking/nerves.html

It is enough to make your head blow, isn't it?

I tried to order some Picamilon a couple of months ago and the order didn't go through. Tried the web page again today and managed to place an order.

I won't be able to tell what's happening with the asthma though because mine only happens in the pollen season...spring and early summer... with exercise.

Yes, it mind-blowing - though we still don't know if vasoconstriction is bad for asthma or not.

It wil be interesting to see what your response is to the (vasodilating) Picamilon.
