Actually I'm posting this for a friend of mine. I haven't started using an inhaler yet but as I talked to her about the issue she expressed the following concern which I said I would post for her:
"I started having panic attacks shortly after I started iusing a steroid inhaler. I always wondered about the connection. But I have to wonder if the steroid inhaler directly caused the panic attacks, or if whatever caused the severe allergies (possibly magnesium deficiency) that required me to need the inhaler, also caused the panic attacks too."
I asked her if it were possible that there were other medications in the inhaler (like bronchodilators) but she didn't remember.

Use of systemic (ingested by mouth) steroids are known to cause a "spin up" reaction, too. I've used Rhinocort nasal spray for allergies and have not had any increased anxiety or panic attack symptoms - due the small volume that's just going to the nasal mucosa, the action of that steroid should just be directly to those tissues. Actual inhalers - where something is delivered into the resp. tract - can be another story and can often bring about systemic (whole body) reactions due to all the rich vascularity involved. To demonstrate, many substance abusers have discovered inhaling "stuff" makes for a pretty good drug delivery system.
