Guys, on the excellent advice of Larry and others I have started taking high quality fish oil, that I picked up at a truly reputable health food store near me.
Taking four grams, two am, two pm. I am also on 10 mg of Lexapro, and 800 mg of Folic acid. The idea is to intensify the Lexapro without taking more actual drug. How long before anybody who has done this or similar noticed any effect? Thanks so much for your feedback. h

Hello there,
On the back of one box of fish oil I was taking it said to give it a couple weeks. When I started taking it to enhance Remeron, I noticed a huge difference within about 4 to 5 days. Everyone's different.
By the way, what brand are you taking?

For me, it depends on the brand. For months I took Trader Joe's brand, which is recommended by Andrew Stoll, M.D. I saw no improvement -- ever. Earlier this summer I started using Twinlab's MegaTwin EPA, and I noticed subtle improvements in mood within a couple of days and a marked improvement in physical symptoms such as joint pains within a week or so. Recently I ran out of the Twinlab brand, and when I couldn't find it in the store, I bought Nordic something-or-other to replace it. I don't like the way I feel on it at all, and I regret having spent all that money on it. I will continue to try to find the Twinlab MegaTwin EPA.

Anecdotal evidence like this is fascinating to me. It indicates that the content of the fish oils can vary dramatically, notwithstanding what is said on the labels. I know that a major proportion of all the North American brands comes from a single contract manufacturer in Nova Scotia. Nordic is European. Brand *shouldn't* matter, if the label constituents are the same.

It's enteric coated and supposed to dissolve in your gut which the bottle says is better.
Has any body heard of fisol fish oil?
thanks

There is a potential benefit from getting the fish oil into the intestines without exposure to stomach acid, but I don't know that it's worth paying extra for that. Maybe, though, if you find that fish oil upsets your stomach.
