A show of hands on fish oil brands?

Posted by cherylann on July 31, 2004, at 21:09:09

I'm back on a combo of remeron and fish oil. The remeron doesn't work unless I take fish oil with it, but finding a good brand is hard. I was using a grocery store brand, but found something that has given me MUCH better results.
It's called Triomega. It only lists 500mgs of EPA and DHA with a ratio of 2:1. It's much stronger than the other brand, but also costs $10 for 30 softgels! That's only a one week supply for me.
So, now I've picked up a bottle of RxOmega-3 Factors. I haven't tried it yet, but I seem to remember someone mentioning that brand before, although nothing came up on a search.
Could anyone who's had success (or failure) with fish oil kindly post with the brand, ratio and cost?
Thanks so much!

hello there, chemist here....for $13.49 (u.s.), i can purchase Solgar Natural MaxEPA, #120 (one hundred twenty) softgels. in each softgel, there are 180 mg EPA and 120 mg DHA. additionally (in that same softgel), are 2 IU of vitamin E, 1.25 mg cholesterol, 1 g total fat, and 10 calories. suggested dose is 2 softgels, so if you follow instructions, you get 1000 mg of EPA+DHA in what i believe is the appropriate rotio (larry will correct me, he knows all about this stuff), 3:2. all that said, i take 6 of these each day (3 softgels bid). i have satisfactory results with this, a total of 3 g of EPA+DHA. however, i do recall a higher dose is required for efficacy (around 9 g, again, larry will fix this if incorrect) but i am pleased as it stands......all the best, chemist

my pathetic math error, sorry » chemist

I also take RxOmega-3 Factors. It's supposed to be very pure (Michael Murray endorsed). It's the #1 biggest seller on iHerb.com. It doesn't leave you with a fish oil taste either. Unfortunately I can only take one capsule a day (to prevent any deficiency - I can't tolerate more of any brand of fish oil without developing skin problems). Enzymatic Therapy is supposed to have a really good product as well though I don't have any of the stats for it. Hope it works for you.
