I'm STARVING

Here's one for ya. Is there any reason to expect that SAM-e would cause increased appetite? Or a pro-cholinergic drug like aricept? I'm taking such tiny doses of both that it's hard to believe either would do anything, so there may be other reasons why I'm going absolutely nuts with hunger and craving carbohydrages.

Emme..I'd be inclined to say it is the pro-cholinergic effect, maybe not so much the SAMe effect, of Aricept you are taking. Having said that, do you find yourself gaining weight? SAMe has some anecdotal reports of weight loss. Also, if you are hungry because of increased metabolism, this may cause weight loss.

So, if you can comment on any weight changes...that might be really helpful.

Best,
Jay

Emme,
I don't know if this helps at all, but I used to take a very small amount of doxepin for sleep. It has anticholinergic effects but it increased my appetite incredibly. I was quite a bit heavier back then for years because of it. Now I'm off of it. Sleep is sometimes hard but I am finally thin again.

In that case, I should expect then a pro-cholinergic drug like Aricept to do the opposite and make me have a reduced appetite. So I don't know what's going on...

After your post I double checked the SEs of aricept and it's supposed to decrease appetite. My weight is creeping up. I'm keeping it minimized to some degree by trying to be disciplined and trying to exercise a bit more. But my metabolism seems to have shifted out of "eat whatever you want" mode and into "watch how much you eat or you'll plump up" mode. Maybe it's because I'm feeling more tired and I'm not burning as as many calories overall. So I dunno. I hope this doesn't last... I need to stay away from the ice cream shop at the end of my street!
