Hello all -
anyone here taking lithium orotate with St John's Wort? Positive, negative experiences?
This is my second time 'round the block' with SJW; the first time it made me manic, although I have never been told I am bipolar. This time round the lithium orotate is making it have a different effect- 'better', I would say. Insomnia still a problem, but nowhere near as much as first time round.
BTW, recently restarted the lith orotate as after one month off it (and on inositol), started going a bit crazy, anxiety getting out of hand etc. etc.

> LoopsI'm going to give you a conceptual answer, here. If you are taking an herbal drug, e.g. SJW, I would be hesitant to combine it with another herbal drug, e.g Rhodiola rosea. In contrast, supplemental treatments that tend to resemble foodstuffs, such as fish oil, are of far less concern. Lithium salts (orotate, carbonate, and some less common ones) kind of straddle the line. It is good that you are concerned about interactions. I doubt you'll have an adverse interaction. What you hope for is a positive interaction. Lithium salts affect the sensitivity of processes that involve sodium ions. You know sodium is a big issue in food, and you get tons of it daily. In that respect, lithium does resemble food. It does also affect gene regulation. I don't expect a problem.
Just pay attention, while you're trying the combination. Do your best to never change doses of both substances at the same time. If something feels wonky, you'll have a better idea what led up to that.
Both substances clear the blood quickly, so discontinuation of either should reverse any problems that might come up.
Keep us informed, okay?
