Fish oil absorption, FISOL

Posted by Jakeman on December 14, 2003, at 11:49:59

I have been taking Nature's Way FISOL, which is labeled "Targeted Release, Enteric coated" fish oil. The label states "...FISOL is uniquely coated to withstand stomach acid. Fisol dissolves in the small intestine to maximize the body's absorption of Omega-3 Fatty Acids....Because FISOL is better absorbed by the body, its required dosage is less that taking non-coated fish oil."

Is there any merit in taking enteric coated fish oil over the regular capsules? Thanks for any comments or feedback.

Well, one nice thing about the enteric coated ones is that they look like jelly beans! Fish oil flavored jelly beans! Yum! :-)

The only merit is that you will avoid "rancid fish burps"....which occur from processes in the stomach. You can largely prevent them by taking fish oil with your largest fattiest meal of the day.

These caps may be an alternative for people who get upset stomachs from fish oil.

Absorption should be the same as regular fish oil, in any case.

Mine are enteric coated and I like them. The coating is a bit vanilla flavored, actually, if I let them hang around in my mouth long enough to realize that.
I go for cheap(comparatively??) and available (not good at mail ordering in time to not run out), but my stomach, breath, and social contacts appreciate the coating.
