> Sigh, it's not a vote to limit the visibility of Babble, it's a vote NOT TO COMPROMISE MY PRIVACY. I am stunned that anyone would endorse that. And promoting your site, the one you have left to languish, is neither my job nor hobby.I'd like to try to clarify a few issues:
1. The FB button makes it easier for a visitor who likes a post here to share it on FB. Which increases the visibility of Babble.
2. What people on FB see is that the visitor's FB identity shared a post by the poster's Babble identity. They don't see the poster's FB identity. The poster might not even be on FB.
3. The visitor could be seen as promoting my site, but could also be seen as promoting what the poster wrote, or promoting this community that we're all part of.
And Twitter is analogous to FB.

Why would I want my neighbors and real life friends to know I post on a mental health site? Phillipa

How would they know it was you?

Because...say I click the FB 'Share' button here on anyone's post. It pops up a window so I can either share the post on my timeline or someone else's (depends on settings/permissions of friends).
Say I do that, even without making a comment (always optional). It will post to my timeline, on my FB page and say:
"RealFirstName RealLastName posted a link" The link to the URL to the PB post is underneath.
My FB page has real info all about real me, as it should.
So...unless my acquaintances/friends/family who read my page fairly often aren't curious, they may naturally wonder where the words to the post in the link come from, click through to here (what you want)...and well, the rest will vary depending on how much they read, what they ask me, etc. It would be pretty awkward to explain too much... I personally am open about **reading** here for years, which most people have been totally fine with...BUT I don't offer up the URL or that I was/am a long time poster.
Linking them directly to a post is SO different to me....my PB posting name would easily give away which posts are mine to several people who know certain things about me. Sure, maybe no one would bother to read that much, or would not figure it out, but I am not willing to go there. I don't want some curious and clever person guessing which person is me and reading all the things I've posted here...no way.
Others here, due to family, work, social issues, do not want to take a chance of connecting the two identities either.

????? I don't understand what this even says or means.

But what if someone else wanted to click the button on one of your posts? Would that be OK?

Nope.
I know you don't understand, due to the fact anyone can link anything, anytime, anywhere to any other location on the 'net, nevertheless, encouraging placing my posts on FB which the button certainly does, isn't okay with me.
We had this discussion before. I am not willing to rehash it. It's a visceral thing and I can't explain any better.

If anybody has concerns about the buttons, I'd be happy to try to address them.

Seriously I would call myself nuts to have the buttons. If it were not an option I would be long gone. Phillipa

Why would you consider it nuts?
