I'm not sure I'd put it quite that way. :)
But I think he's been pretty clear he's not going to do anything no matter what. I'd kind of like to know why, but as far as getting him to change his mind - or having a satisfactory resolution to the discussion, I think it's a lost cause.
I think I'd phrase it "Why bother?"
