donations allowed?

Posted by g_g_g_unit on June 23, 2013, at 11:28:12

Hi, I've been a long-time member of this site. I suffer from refractory OCD and have been interested in trialing Riluzole on the advice of a Yale clinician, but unfortunately it is rather expensive and currently beyond my financial means.

As much as it totally pains me, I have set up a donation page requesting a modest amount that will allow me to afford a 4-month's supply of the drug in order to know whether it might be of some benefit. Pending it works, I may be able to pursue some form of casual/part-time work and continue to pay for the drug myself.

I was wondering if, under the board's rules, it would be permitted for me to post a link on this site? Unfortunately I do not have any close friends/family I can turn to at this point, so was depending on the help of (relative) strangers.

Thank you

Hi ggg,

In my opinion, probably not something Dr. Bob would prefer you do, per the FAQ:

"Please also do not request medication, money, etc., directly from or offer it directly to others here."

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#help

Even though it would be a link to another page, Dr. Bob might see that as still pretty "direct."
Of course, this is just my opinion. You might want to email him directly instead of waiting for him to see this.

I am sorry you have this issue - it must be so incredibly frustrating. Take care...

Thanks RJ but I'm not in the US and don't receive any form of government assistance where I live.

I understand 10der; I figured it would be against board policy but no harm in asking. Appreciate your sympathy though ..

Like I said, it is just my opinion. I have never been all that good at guessing Dr. Bob's reactions. What you propose isn't *exactly* what the FAQ addresses, so I really don't know.

You could always post with the link and perhaps enough people would see it for some responses before Dr. Bob gets around to weigh in....? If I were you, I'm not sure I wouldn't do that, since no one official has said it's the *same* as asking directly.

I am a cautious type about rules, even when I don't know if they actually apply, but that attitude is too rigid for the problems of real life sometimes. The worst that might happen is he deletes the link at some point...

I just feel bad you might not use a possible avenue to help your situation because of my lone opinion....

Thanks 10der. I do feel incredibly guilty about turning to others for financial assistance, since I imagine a lot of people here are equally in need, but I guess I'll take you up on your suggestion and post it. If Dr Bob does decide to delete it, I can certainly understand and respect that.
