I believe Psycho-Babble have a hard time attracting new people mostly due to the format, i assume it has been in use since the opening of the site?
If PB changed into a new and popular forum format things would probably change dramatically. But it's hard to change from nostalgia.
Possible forum formats which are highly effective and easy to use is:

I actually like the format of the web site a lot. I find it is simple, easy to use, and free of the super-annoying visual clutter that so many other sites have. But that's just me.
I suspect some of the trouble with getting new members here is more related to content of some of the posts that may dissuade lurkers from actually joining in. Most of the content here is fine and supportive and interesting, but the occasional threads with conflict may be a problem. Hopefully the generally kind and supportive atmosphere here, along with the unusually good knowledge of the members, will prevail and new people will sign on board.
It might not be super productive to post about how no one is posting. Remember, this is a spring weekend, and the weather is nice in at least some parts of the country. So people are probably out and about.

If anyone were to consider posting on Psycho-Babble and saw your posts of doom here, they might decide that they should move on to find that other island.
Just a thought. I could be wrong.

People answered and had quite a few good suggestions. Some are not posting due to advise from their docs. To stay away from the internet. Others just do what their docs say and don't frequent this or any other med board. Many use facebook as it's fun!!

Kind of shame you can't set up a repeating post where your message gets sent out again and again at some regular interval. Wouldn't that be nice not to have to type it out again and again?

Whilst I do agree with your point Phillipa, I am getting a bit tired of this same post as I don't see what purpose it serves. I am a fairly regular viewer of the board, but I'm not sure if I was a newbie I would be as attracted to read/post if these 'debates' were filling the so called medication board.

I'm still here. Went to Costa Rica w/ hubby. No internet reception where I was staying. I'm in the process of dropping some meds. Ditched Lamictal, Wellbutrin, substituted 2mg Klonopin for .5 to 1mg of Xanax. Taking a bunch of vitamins. Was feeling better until the trip to Costa Rica. Hope I'm not making a huge mistake. Hope you are doing well.

Interestingly, my doctor has had a great deal of success combining Lamictal and Wellbutrin. Hopefully, you won't need to go back to these two drugs.

> - ScottI just didn't feel any better on them. In fact, I believe Lamictal worsened my symptoms of PMS and ruminations. As for Wellbutrin it was added to augment Lexapro but it caused insomnia. Yet, despite Wellbutrin discontinuation my insomnia continues relentless. So I may take it up again as it helps counteract Lexapro's weight gain. I still take Vyvanse for energy and Xanax or Ambien for sleep. Also I'm considering, as per your previous suggestion talking to my doctor about Parnate since I've never gone that route except for the Emsam patch. I looked it up after your suggestion various posts back and it does not seem to be weight problematic. So we'll see. Thanks for everything. Hope you are doing well.

Insomnia is not always a bad thing. For me, it is a good sign that I will soon respond. Parnate desipramine was the first combination that worked for me. It was also the first treatment to produce insomnia in me.

That doesn't sound like a heck of a lot of fun.

How did you react to Effexor or Pristiq?
Has ADD/ADHD ever been proposed as a comorbid illness?

Not too bad. That's pretty good.

>I took Pristiq when it came out but cannot truly give you a verdict on it as I didn't take it long enough. I do remember it making me jittery. As for Effexor, I've heard so many horror stories I didn't even want to try it.
> Has ADD/ADHD ever been proposed as a comorbid illness?
Never and neither has bipolar. My depression is the super melancholic type. Crying, crying and crying with a prolonged feeling of doom. It began out of the blue with no warning (age 19) and just as it came it lifted on its own as it nothing had ever happened only to come back months later. However, with time the episodes became more frequent. Started taking meds at age 33 now 48. Now it's just chronic without ever feeling full remission. I remember the 1st time I took Adderall, I felt the most normal I had ever been. Adderall or Vyvanse are of great help to counteract my fatigue.
Meds
Lexapro 20mg
Vyvanse 40mg
Xanax .5-1mg
Ambien- as needed which is pretty much every night2 months ago was taking:
the above mentioned
Lamictal 200 mg
Klonopin 2mg-3mg
Wellbutrin 300mgIn addition, I've given up processed foods (for the most part) & added vitamins and minerals.
Glad to hear you are doing well. Do you think your trial with Minocycline was successful?

> My depression is the super melancholic type.
I am so sorry. That must be interminably painful.
Psychomotor retardation?
How do you react to methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta, Focalin, Metadate)?
Which tricyclics have you tried? What have you combined them with?
What about Remeron?
> Glad to hear you are doing well. Do you think your trial with Minocycline was successful?
When I first began taking minocycline, the improvement in depression was rapid and unambiguous. At one point, I tried to remove it, but quickly relapsed. Restarting the drug allowed me to recapture the antidepressant response.
Right now, I am sleeping too much during the day. I don't like this, and I can't account for it. I recently increased my dosage of Lamictal, which improved my depression quite a bit. If the somnolence continues, I might try reducing my dosage of prazosin.
<sigh> It's always something.

Hi I've heard that Costa Rics is an up & coming place to retire. Seems a lot of American docs are setting clinics up over there. Guy that added our sunroom went for Dental work extensive. Cost here was $8000. He & his wife went for a week. Total cost for air fare, resort for a week & all the Dental implants and stuff he had done plus his wife also have some more minor stuff done was $2500. Saw him later and he looked great. Phillipa

Hi all,
I'm peeking in once more. It's been a few years since I've been around but I'm glad to see that folks are still here. It's a tricky thing about these boards - they can be addicting and triggering and at times I wondered if I was keeping myself stuck by being around others that had similar issues and not "getting on with things". But that is the folly of depression - if you could, you would. I think the focus on PB on medication issues was and still is the backbone of the board. It's really helpful to me to be able to search back through the years and look over the posts - my own included.

Hi RJ yes have been reading your messages. So you feel having some professional help online here would help? I've been reading that the future of medicine is in online doc really being there to ask questions to. Also online counselling? Phillipa
