Dr. Bob it would be a good idea to intervene

Posted by maxime on October 23, 2010, at 23:05:58

I don't know if you have taken a look at the med board lately. But it has been overtaken by one poster's propaganda and it frustrating *some* posters. Actually the frustration is so thick on that board right now you could cut it with a knife. I know you only post on that board when you hand out a block or a PBC. But I think it is time that you help us rectify the situation before it gets out of hand if it hasn't already.

Thank you in advance.

It is considered uncivil here to name a poster and then label them with something negative, or more precisely , label them with something that could lead them to feel accused or put down.

I think it's reasonable to think a person might feel put down being called a "propaganda pusher."

In fact, it is sometimes uncivil to apply a negative label to "a poster" or "posters" as that way even *more* people could possibly feel put down as they read and wonder, "Are they talking about me?" I don't know about this case - that's up to Dr. Bob and/or current deputy to decide.

I think Maxie is well aware of this so I personally would recommend she not answer your question on the boards.

Well, *someone* keeps updating the photo at the top of the board, so I wonder whether he may actually be present.. maybe he doesn't intervene for a while to show us how the forum would descend into chaos if he was more restrained in terms of moderating/blocking/etc...

In my eyes, most views expressed on the board are legitimate dissent, but it appears that expressing that is not too much appreciated. From an ethical perspective, if we all adopted Lou's behavior, the forum would go down the drain, but for an individual to behave like this seems to be acceptable.. kinda strange..

Sorry about not having been able to check in lately. A couple suggestions:

Practically speaking, the situation might not be rectified, but it might be more manageable if (1) you posted your point of view if necessary to balance other posted points of view and (2) you used I-statements to express how you felt:

Metaphorically speaking, what if you thought of Babble as a brain and unwanted posts as unwanted thoughts? How do you deal with anxieties, impulses, or voices if your brain "posts" them?

I didn't intervene because I was busy, but I do think my absences are learning opportunities.
