"I just tested it and it goes right to your profile page with a picture of doctor Bob on it." - Maxime
So if you accidentally click that Facebook button, your post will AUTOMATICALLY go to your personal facebook profile - where your friends, acquaintences, coworkers, etc., can see your post and follow the link to here and read about all your mental health issues????????
It automatically links to the Facebook profile associated with the email you used to register on this site?
If I understand this correctly - I am mortified!!!!!!! I cannot believe Dr. Bob would DO this.
PEOPLE - CHECK YOUR FACEBOOK WALLS

I've tried it out as well and yes, it does post a link of the post to your personal Facebook account wall, but it is not a one click process. I think you need to click maybe two times to confirm or something.
If you don't want your co-workers reading your status updates, you can set your profile settings differently. I have it set up so that only my Babbler friends on Facebook can see my status updates, where I like to talk about my mental health issues sometimes.
I don't visit FB often now though since I like Twitter more.

Oops, I meant to say "privacy" settings, not profile settings. On Facebook you can make lists of different types of friends and then give each list different access to your information.

I was signed into Facebook at the time. You have to be signed into Facebook for it to work.

Thanks for the clarification Deneb, Maxime. It's a relief to see it wasn't an automatic process.
sigh...I'm finished here. I have others means to advocate for the rights or treatment of the mental health community. I'll take Muffled's advice.
Deneb-I'm sorry you are going through a rough time. Do you think it would be helpful for you to get support over at Psych Central for a while? I hope things get better for you soon - keep your chin up!
Halloweeen starts now. Happy Halloween everyone, and bye!

Thanks for that maxime. I'm out of here. If I accidently clicked the facebook link, I would lose my job.
My family, friends and a few co-workers know of my condition but I couldn't stand the relentless questioning and stigma from everyone else.
Thanks all you lovely people for almost 5 years of amazing support and understanding. I wouldn't be here without you all.
PEACE OUT CACTUS!!!!

Just in case anyone doesn't know-- it's entirely possible to hide or to remove anything you post on your facebook page.
It's not as if you post something and it's there for eternity no matter what you want.

It wouldn't end up on my facebook page, because I wouldn't hit the facebook button.

> Boy I'm super dumb as I thought anyone could click your posts.
They can and simply not understanding something doesn't mean you can call yourself mean names. It's one of many reasons we have each other here and in IRL, isn't it? To help each other understand? We have different strengths, and that is how God made us. You are not dumb.
>So can someone click my post and have it end up on my facebook page?
No. They can sigh into their OWN Facebook account (or Twitter account), open a post here, click the buttons and have that post appear on THEIR Facebook or Twitter page.
No one can forcibly place information on *your* FB or Twitter page.
Make sense?

~ ~ Yup - pretty freaky, right?!I wrote a post on a board I don't visit & just wrote "test" in it. Then put it to Facebook. And what you said happens.
I was totally shocked!!! Jeeeeeez Louise. I think the picture shocked me almost as much as anything else!
Kath
PS - I should have posted here about it to let people know. Sorry.

In fact, you can share on Facebook just about anything that's online. And you can explain why you're sharing it, too. Hmm, maybe "share" is misleading, since you can share what's not yours?

> Bobor lose you job, or friends, or family members. I just guess you'll never see it our way. As a mental health person you can't understand how it is from OUR view, just your own. Which again makes me feel lab ratty and you are the person peering over me, wondering how I tick? This has become somewhat a perplexing situation for me. I just cant understand how you can't understand how we feel. It is, and I asked my own p-doc about this and he understands how we feel, so why can't you. Perhaps this is not really about us, it is our lives, pain and feelings posted all over here, but for you, it is just work or something I don't know what it is to you, I am not in your head, but we are hurting people that prefer to tell our IRL friends, via facebook, twitter or real interactions, what we want. Babble is a place we have needed to help us sort out what we want, feel, or think. We just want the ability to choose who knows what. We can all sign up for twitter or facebook any time and if we don't link the two to our babbler personality then that should tell you we DON"T want to and the why, where it is anxiety or whatever is not important. Or so this is how I feel it should be. But again, you don't understand.
I am glad the links or buttons are gone but you still can get to each one of them through your twitter site and that is what still bothers me.
sigh..............and shaking head over the shame of all this.

An Excerpt from a long post
Imagine if the suicide note from a few nights ago ended up on your FB page?
> >
> > Maxime
>
> Then more people might have seen it and reached out to the poster?
>
> BobBob, because I have tried to commit suicide and if I had linked my FB to babble, I would have completely freaked out all of my friends, family and co-workers that know what I tried to do. Because I responded to that post.
Not to mention the other 80 people I have on FB that don't know what I did because I responded to that very post.
Do you understand why I'm so upset about this?
I'm more concerned about fellow babblers who have linked their accounts to FB or twitter for this very reason.
I do think some people who understand mental illness might have responded, but if they don't suffer from mental illness why would they hang around? To keep an eye on what their family member, friend or co-worker is discussing with others about their illness. I find it no different to breaching the privacy of AA. I'm also a recovering alcoholic (which I also disclosed in that post because I felt safe here). This is what I said earlier, I just don't think you understand how distressing this is.
All I can say is, that if you have used a recognisable user name that people will know, change it.
Peace C

I agree about changing posting names if they make us vulnerable.
