Hey Dr. Bob, or whoever,
For some reason my Firefox browser on my Ubuntu netbook always says it needs to install something to display Babble correctly.
I think it's not displaying the music bar thingie.
I dunno anything 'bout computers. Is annoying popup everytime I come to babble.
How do I get the missing "part"?

Can you post the exact message from Firefox? I think this happened to me a couple years back....and if I saw the message ......hmmm...seems so familiar....
So you've used IE before, and this is the first time trying to load Babble with Firefox? If so, does Ubuntu do okay with IE, or are they not even compatible?
Is the only new aspect your netbook/using Ubuntu?

It's a yellow bar that pops up at the top. It says:
Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page.
There is a button to get the plugin, but when I click on it it doesn't find any.
This happened with Firefox on my computers with Windows XP too. The Firefox at my uni doesn't have this problem though.
I'm not sure if I can get I.E. for Ubuntu. Are they linux compatible?

I had to load something like Quicktime alternative to make that go away. If I get time, I'll search for the thread.

Yup, but with a little research it seems there is no easy fix for those using linux. Seems a bit complicated to get mplayer - the linux alternative - working....
=====================================See this from Firefox:
Quicktime
The Quicktime plugin is required for Quicktime media formats. The Quicktime plugin can also play common media formats like MPEG, WAV and MP3, which may not play back through the Windows Media Player plugin. For Firefox, the Quicktime plugin is highly recommended.
* For more information, see Using the Quicktime plugin with Firefox.
Platform availability
Mac OS, Windows:Quicktime is available from the official Apple website.
======================
Linux:An official plugin is not available for Linux, but mplayer with the mplayerplugin allows the playback of Quicktime media. For more information and installation instructions, see Using the Quicktime plugin with Firefox.
=================================And:
Installing QuickTime
Windows:1. QuickTime can be downloaded from the Apple website.
2. After you've downloaded the installer file, double-click it and then follow the on-screen instructions.Mac OS:
QuickTime comes pre-installed on Mac.
Linux:
===============================================
QuickTime is not available for the Linux platform, but mplayer is a popular Linux media player that can play back Quicktime media. There is a separate browser plugin for it.The plugin can be usually installed as a package for the current Linux distro used ****(for example in Ubuntu it is named mozilla-mplayer)**** or can be downloaded from the mplayerplug-in website and built from scratch - if you choose to do so, please follow the instructions on the author's website.

Yikes!!

Thanks gg and 10der!
Yikes indeed! LOL
I am a newbie at this Ubuntu thing, I don't even know how to use the terminal. Oh well, the yellow bar isn't that bad.

I checked with the Ubuntu forums on this and it seems other users have a problem playing midi files too. There seems to be no fix for this problem.
Quicktime is also a problem. The music file is a midi file.
I will try to do some more research on this.
Ubuntu forums rock btw. They are very helpful.

I'm not sure I want to install an application just for midi files tho. I really don't want to hear the psychobabble music LOL.
This is the end of the thread.
