This might be the first time this has come up.

That's one area that I'm guessing only Dr. Bob can edit in a post. Deputies have only been able to edit the body of a post, and I'm not aware of that changing. However, they can delete a post, and that would at least temporarily solve the problem until Dr. Bob can edit it and then restore the post. Although deleting posts is not the norm, I hope they will consider it in this case.

Dinah did that last night. It perhaps took us - as a group - too long to make that decision....but....well, never mind. Anyway, yes, I think in this case, with no access to Dr. Bob, or ability to disable the preview function, we had to delete several posts with personal information in their first lines.

I'm not familiar with the technical workings of the software that allows for a preview, but I have a theory, or maybe a 'wild guess' from what I've observed. It seems like a 'snapshot' is taken of the first line of an original post, and even after we xxxx out something, the preview software retains that 'snapshot.' So, when the name/words that are deleted happen to be in the first line, we do have a problem.

I'll bet if he chooses to restore them (which as you know, we can't do) the preview will 'fix itself,' too, and update to the revised post. 'course, I could be way off base here, but in any case, Dr. Bob can fix he glitch, I certainly hope.

We have alerted Dr. Bob to this issue by email.

Thanks, gg, for allowing me to think aloud to you. Not that you could have stopped me....;-)

Guess I should look up the thread a bit before replying, eh? Sorry about that. Thanks for discussing it and for taking care of it. I remember what it was like other times Dr. Bob was gone. It was always a bonus to have each other for support, but at the same time, it was quite stressful. I hope y'll are hanging in there.

Oh, and your theory makes sense to me.

I'm glad you figured out an answer!

Exactly right. It should be fixed now. Those previews and the xing out system.
