Thanks, let's go ahead with this change. I've updated and added a calculator to the FAQ:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#enforce

Also, I agree that P should be the period of time since the end (rather than the beginning) of the previous block. In Zenhussy's case, that makes it 99, not 147, so:

B = 1 + (3 * 48 - 1) * exp(-99/35) = 9.20 -> 9 weeks

And I'll change it to that. Thanks, everyone, for your patience,

Bob

i do not understand why a block for being uncivil on this site is so complicated...
uncivil = 1 day?
uncivil again = 1 day...

if a person is consistantly uncivil...it should be brought to the attention to the server who hosts this site..
with the new rule "not using the notify button is concidered uncivil"...anything posted on admin is uncivil...

i post here because i know i might be heard...the "notify" button does not work for me because i was taught to stand up for my myself and the opinions i hold...

Hi, I'm muffled, dunno if we've met. Hello.
I been battling this for AWHILE.
I think its a matter of deterrence. I'm of a mind that a week at a time would be plenty. Deter, but not utterly ostracise. Theres ALOT on admin about this stuff.
There HAS been change, but its VERY slow...
The notification button does serve a purpose, cuz it is sometimes good to have anonymity. Tends to keep the peace a little more. Again, there's lotsa fights bout people feeling "attacked" and that sort of thing, historically here on admin. Its rather rough and tumble here.
So try not to burn yourself out here...
BTW, this site is owned and operated 100% by Robert Hsuing, there is ultimately NO recourse other than him. Thats good to keep in mind...
Take care,glad you taking an interestin the 'stuff' of babble.
M

and if you use the "notify" button and get no response, what then? or e.mail and get no answer, what do you do? or, etc. etc. etc.

Some people are reassured by complex formulae?

Could it be that?

Like the Holy Trinity or the dialectic?

Sorry, sometimes we get behind or aren't sure what to do and need to discuss it. If we don't respond on the board or to you directly, it's fine to remind us. Either use the button again or post something here. If you post something here, it would help to include the date you notified us, but any more than that is unnecessary (and might even be considered uncivil). Thanks,

Bob

I suggested one week at a time too, but no one responded. I feel that the formulas are ludicrous and do peoples heads in. I just don't think it's necessary at all to have such complex blocking systems. I feel it does way more harm than good. I really do believe that people will fall into line and abide by the guidlines faster by getting one week blocks at a time. It's a much faster learning mechanism that I feel will benefit people greatly and learn to act more appropriatly in the long run. Why can't it be trialed?

I wish the formula were simpler, too. But to me it makes sense in a way, since people are complex...
