I see that there are both yellow and green "new" indicators after various posts; I'm a recent returnee here so I'm familiar with the yellow ones, but what's the difference between these and the green ones (those I don't recall from past experience!) Thanks.

Green "new" is the first post from a new user name. Yellow "new" means the post is new since the last time you loaded the page.
