I thought broadband was to be so much faster than regular dial up. I seem to spend half my time waiting and waiting and waiting for something to open.
Made me irritable.

You might want to call your cable provider. I just got broadband and it took a follow-up visit by the installer to work out the bugs.
Another source of trouble could be your Virus Protection program, firewall, or window's settings under security and privacy. Nortons is famous for slowing down the web connection.

I have Norton (and Ad-ware) - I will check these things out. Thanks for the tips Verne!

I'm running broadband cable on a 97 compaq laptop with windows 98 and it works good with effort.
You might try unplugging from the net, turning off your protections, and doing disk clean, disk scan, and defrag. If you have your backup disks for you base programs, you can try deleting all the junk they give you that you will never use. For me that was stuff like games, and media player stuff, and stuff I can't even remember like money programs. But this computer is just for the net. When I get money, I'll get a big fancy one for everything.
Don't forget to restart and put all your protection back on before you reconnect to internet. Maybe this will help some.

Thanks James. My broadband is on xp. I did a disk clean and scan, and defrag, recently but I guess I should do it again.
Media player, however, I cannot do without, even if mine is not "web" based.
Thanks for your input and help.Sabrina

I went from using a land line with dial-up and a modem to now having wireless internet. I believe I share my signal with a a couple of other folk - this might be the reason for sluggishness. Don't know.
