Hello Dr Bob,
The google search engine for the site is still not working on my computer?
The symptoms of the problem are that when the new window opens up with the results, as it normally would ~ the window automatically shuts (like someone or a programme closes the window) after about 2 seconds making it pretty difficult, well impossible to use the search engine.
Its something I would liked to use, because I used to use the search engine mainly to look up information on supplements and medications.
Any ideas? My settings? The sites Settings?
As far as I know others posters don't appear to have the same problem, of course normally I would now go and use the search engine to try and find out if this has happened before, but unfortunately... lol
Kind regards
Nick

Weird. I haven't changed anything here lately, have you on your end? Upgraded your browser or changed any settings? You're sure the window shuts and doesn't just go behind others?
Have you tried searching from the search page?

Hi Dr Bob,
>You're sure the window shuts and doesn't just go behind others?
Yep. I use Windows XP, I just tried running the search engine again with the windows task manager running ~ it showed the window/task of the search engine 'status' as running, then as soon as the window shut down, it disapeared from the windows task manager too, so from what I can see its not running in the background..
>I haven't changed anything here lately, have you on your end? Upgraded your browser or changed any settings?
Yes, this may have something to do with it, but I'm not sure how? A couple of weeks ago I upgraded my graphics card. The new graphics card runs very well with the system in general, meets all the minimum system requirements etc I did slightly tweak the display options in the control panel..
Changed the colour quality to highest (32 bit)
Changed the montior settings to 75 Hertz.
Thats was just to get the display to perform the best from the new card...
Everything else runs fine with this, everything else in windows and on the internet. Only problem seems to be this search feature..
>Have you tried searching from the search page?
Yep, same problem unfortunately..
>Weird.
Definitely, I'm not 100% sure this problem has started since I upgraded my graphics card, although could this be it do you think from the settings I've changed?
Kind regards
Nick

I don't think so. You didn't change any settings for pop-up windows or install some sort of blocker? Try:

Hello Dr Bob,

Excellent :-) Thats working fine!
How do I get to that link from the site? I couldn't quite find it when I just had a look, is it from the search page?
>You didn't change any settings for pop-up windows or install some sort of blocker?
No, I have windows Pop-up blocker switched on, thats always been switched one though. I just tried turning it off and using the normal search feature below, but still had the same problem..
I have noticed though, that recently I have been getting some pop-up advertising windows come up which didn't used to before, looks like some kind of spyware/adware that has leaked through. I use Norton Internet Security Anti Virus etc and I've run a scan today and found 4 adware virus which i've removed. Although from what I can tell so far, removing the virus has not fixed the problem..
I'm going to do more maintenance tomorrow to make sure the computer is running properly to see if it will fix it with regards to anymore virus/pop-ups. Do you think if theres some kind of adware/pop-up virus on my system it could be causing it to happen?
Many thanks for providing the link above, much appreciated :-) I guess if all else fails I can still use the search-test feature above?
Kind regards
Nick

Hmm, maybe try turning it off, rebooting, and then trying the old way? It definitely has something to do with pop-ups, that's the only thing that's different...

I don't know, possibly, I suppose, I'm not a virus expert...

Sure, but I'd rename it in that case...

Still have the original problem i'm afriad with the normal search feature. Whats strange though the past couple of days i've been doing general maintaince on the computer virus scans, up dating things, removing un-wanted spyware/adware programmes - to which, I had over a hundred!Anyway, at one point I had it working, but after doing some more stuff (I havent a clue what) my computer is running faster, but the normal search feature still doesn't work..
>I don't know, possibly, I suppose, I'm not a virus expert...
Computer is completely virus free now, I just can't pin point the problem though lol
>No, it's new. :-)

For the time being, still afew more bits I realised I can tune up on the computer generally, if its okay I like to use the new test feature as i'm not entirely sure i'll be able to get the usual feature working..
Thanks for your help with this, don't know where the internet would be without the help of a search engine! :-)
Kind regards
Nick
