Dr. Bob.... a question about PBC's

Posted by spriggy on August 11, 2005, at 0:45:46

I don't know if there is a place I can read about this procedure, but I am curious if a person only gets one PBC and then gets blocked?

Or do you get several and then get blocked?

I am confused.

I've already gotten my name written up on the PBC chalk board, I need to avoid a check mark if possible. ;)

That's not surprising, it's confusing! The short answer is, it can happen after one, but it depends on the circumstances.

Welcome to the club, sister! I'm sure there have been others, but here is a link to one recent thread on the subject... Grab a cup of coffee and a scratchpad, and prepare to read awhile ;-)

If you can solve the puzzle, please share! (This is a major source of friction here, IMO.)

Ooops!

... that thread goes off on a couple tangents, though there is some PBC/block stuff to be gleaned.

Anyway, welcome to the club, sister! IMO, there doesn't seem to be a way to know *for sure* when you'll be PBCd or blocked; it's like a ruler hovering over your wrist at all times -- and maybe that's by design? ;-) IMO, unless you abstain from posting you can never truly know if you could be bringing a judgment down on yourself.

Some tips: Avoid threads on explosive Babble topics! (You've been here long enough to have a sense of what they are.) Furthermore, unlike Doug Piranha (hello Python fans), never use "dramatic irony, metaphor, pathos, puns, parody, litotes, and satire"; unless they are well marked by disclaimers and/or smiley emoticons -- hold off on penning Clever remarks. Also avoid Complaining about anyone or anything, or Challenging anything anyone says.

Putting questionable comments in the form of a question can sometimes help you express Clever, Complaining, or Challenging ideas, but be careful. And when all else fails, apologize! Simply prefacing or following a dicey remark with an "I'm sorry" seems to stave off punishment. (Though if one does this too frequently, he or she may come across as insincere.)

You seem to appreciate humor, so you should like Gabbi's light-hearted take on the issuing of PBCs and blocks at http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/admin/20050517/msgs/501764.html Of course, if you believe any of what I've written, you'll see that she took a chance when she wrote that post, just as I've done with this one! :-o

well, in that case Dr. Bob
