Dr Bob - new board for good and happy things??

Posted by pinkeye on July 2, 2005, at 17:43:53

Dr Bob - I have a suggestion - see if it makes sense. How about a new board for discussing good things? and Happy things in people's lives?? All the boards here are only to vent and complain and get consolation.. wouldn't it be good to have a board where people can share nice things, thoughts, share pleasant things in their lives? So it will be full of inspiration for anybody!!

Hello. I suggested something similar a while back. I think people were worried about it being 'nauseating'.

But it would be nice to have someplace 'happy' for when one is feeling really down and doesn't want to be triggered.

Oh no.. I think it will be a lovely thing. For a change from the regular board where you share your problems. What about sharing good things? And people don't have to post if they don't like..

I think it's up to us to start happy threads on existing boards - if we feel happy, that is...
Social is where I'm usually pretty silly (though I end up being silly in lots of places!). And I can misdirect any thread you hand me.

But in other boards, I have to navigate through several down posts before I can find something happy..

Perhaps it's because people tend to post when they are hurting or in need of support, and don't often post when things are going well? Kind of the nature of the beasts that bring us here in the first place.

Yeah, true, and this precisely what is leading to more miseries for people - to talk and notice about things when they are not going well, and to take it for granted when things are going well.

That has precisely been shown as the cause of unhappiness - not noticing good things in our lives. So this board will revert that right? People will be encouraged to share good things, and it will make them notice good things in their life more, and share it more and it will develop gratitude more.

and anything controversial that might cause the Patrician class to feel uneasy about their hold on power would be strictly forbidden.

It's an interesting idea, but I agree with pc. And happy threads on existing boards would have a similar effect. In general, I'd like boards not to get too polarized. What if people never went to the happy board?

OTOH, if someone wanted to collect links to happy threads in a folder at Psycho-Babble Tips, that would be a nice resource...

Probably makes sense. There is no such thing as "happy" anyway unless it is already related to one of these boards I guess - relationships or book/movies or social. I guess it would be hard to distinguish what to post in happy and what to post when you feel happy about a movie or relationship.

It would be funny if all the happy posts got moved to the happy board and all that was left on the rest was tales of gloom and woe. I still think it was a nice idea, though :-)
