Question about civility

Posted by Shy_Girl on May 2, 2005, at 23:05:17

I'm a little confused here...

So, it is not allowed to ask if x can be deadly in overdose, even if x is very very safe in overdose?

However, one can talk about how one survived an overdose on y, even if y is very deadly?

I noticed that one can get more harmful ideas about methods from reading things on the substance boards for example. So...one can write about taking a dangerous substance that is lethal in overdose if one is writing about it in the context of recreational use? However, one cannot write about ways to kill oneself using something that is obviously not going to result in death, or even much harm?

I'm not looking to break any rules....I just want to understand.

Perhaps the civility rules concern themselves with the intent in the drug use - to self harm intentionally by taking more than a recommended dosage; or for recreation (which can admittedly cause one to self harm inadvertently).

Just my interpretation of the rules - I hope Dr Bob will set us straight on this.

I think PC is right. I've only seen people get PBCs if they are talking about methods of harming themselves. And if they are giving specific information, or asking about specific methods that part of the post usually gets xxxxx'd out.

What I worry about is someone then taking an overdose of x and it not being safe *for them*.

If one doesn't say how much one took. Are you thinking others might then assume y is safe?

Not safe, but perhaps not as harmful as they should think? I think I know what you're getting at though. I forget sometimes that a lot of people don't have a lot of info regarding the lethality of certain meds. Therefore, one must treat a "safe" med the same as a "deadly" med (in overdose of course), because we don't want to encourage overdoses of any type of med to cause harm/death.

And of course, since we are all different, what might be harmful for one person, might not be for another. So if a person survived on x amount, if someone else took the same it has the potential to be lethal for someone else. Fondly, Phillipa
