Interesting topic. I see "faith" as something personal and uplifting.
I see religion (as institutes) as organizations that use a people's faith as a way to control them.
Throughout history, 'religion' has proved to be quite useful in controlling the masses (crusades and inquisitions aside) and has helped us become more civilized.
The real question has to do with when the control is too much control, and if participation is voluntary or mandatory.
None of what I think of 'religion' has anything at all to do with faith, even of a particular faith.
Having something in your life - faith - is a wonderful thing, and I don't know of anyone that would say otherwise..Belonging to a 'religion' isn't by definition a good thing. In fact, most of the arguments are of the "my book is better than your book" variety. This is even true between different "brands" of Christianity, Islam and Judaism.
