Let me start with my intent in responding. It is to help you feel safer.
Granted fires wasn't a bit hit at first, and is still responded to cautiously, but I think a lot of this started just because he didn't understand how things worked here. He's starting to catch on, though as he said today he forgets sometimes...
I've found out that the biggest source of confusion for him came from the way threads can branch and go different directions. He's used to places where everyone stays rigidly on topic and you could understand all the posts by reading them sequentially. So if someone made a comment on a post 5 replies up, he thought it was on the one right before it. gardengirl has set him straight on this, along with what 'reply to previous poster' means. Once I figured *that* out, things made a bit more sense.
Also, I noticed that folks seemed to think that when he said 'bye' he was saying he was going away, and then got annoyed when he didn't. I've finally figured out that 'bye' is like 'cheere' of 'ciao'

I personally don't think there was any malice there, just confusion blended with a smattering of self-defense.Anyway, I'm really not trying to take any sides or, heaven forbid, do anything to upset you. I am just trying to explain a couple of things so you would feel safer.
