Defenestration is defined by Merriam-Webster to be: a throwing of a PERSON or THING out of a window.

I saw nothing in liligoth's post that would necessarily be a joke about death. Even throwing a person out of a window does not necessarily result in death.

In that context, it was a person, not a thing, and the reason persons are defenestrated is to kill them.

Hi - this is pixygoth, and it was me , not liligoth - although I still don't see the problematical context in my post - I was talking about liking a word. This was relevant cos there were lots of big words flying about, and there seemed to be a question as to whether use of them was ok.
Thanks Fallsfall for getting it.
And Bob, what if a person was escaping a fire? Or poison gas? Or... there's lots of reasons to go through a window that aren't about death (well.. you get my meaning I hope).

excuse me Fallsfall, but that was not mentioned in a post by me. Nor did I make any comment upon that subject.
cheers

> Should this go to admin? Either way, what did that have to do with joking about death? I was expressing my liking for a word which means "out of a window putting" as far as I'm aware. You can defenestrate a book, a brick, a television - oh, well yes, oneself as well I suppose, but does that mean we can't use the word "top"??

Thank you for your clear and steady vision of the issues... You are doing much more than promoting meaningless babble here... You are keeping the postings and responses appropriate... Too many times I have dropped into chat rooms and boards to see what goes on, only to find 5 or 6 people running the site as their own little playpen... Thank you again for keeping your board out of that morass... Dr. Rod
