Dr Bob,
How do you add the names of more than one previous poster to the subject line? For example; "Re: please be civil » Ron Hill » Colin Wallace"
Here is a recent post where you used this (unknown to me) feature:

Dr Bob, et al;
Here's one way to do it, but there might be an easier way.
Manually typing the posters names is easy enough (so long as I'm careful to spell the names corectly and capitaleyes aPpRoPrIaTeLy -- people typical do not like to see their name misspelled). The part I couldn't figure out was how to get the ">>" to appear in the confirmed post.
The symbol ">" is one of a handful of symbols that do not display in the subject line after the post is submitted. No need to take my word for it; try it for yourself. Type ">>" in the subject line (noticing that the symbols show up just fine), then click the "Submit your post” button and, presto, the “>>” is gone. Further, even if the “>>” did not disappear, the font is different from the previous poster symbol, and therefore, at best it would look like a poor counterfeit.
But here is what I learned (by accident) after going through the process of typing the first post in this thread. If one pulls up a post that contains the previous poster symbol in its subject line, the symbol can be blocked, copied, and pasted (repeatedly, if so desired) into the subject line of a new post. And when the post is submitted, the symbol does not disappear.
Remember to watch the spelling and capitalization of those names, however.

And on a Macintosh, you don't even have to do that, it's just shift-option-backslash. :-)

Don’t feel bad, we love ya in spite of your archaic preference. :-)
Actually, most of the true computer geeks I've met over the years swear by their Macs. Just goes to show that in our society high powered marketing (and questionable business tactics?) wins out over superior technology every day of the week.

I'm not sure. I know there's one model operating out in California, and I've got one here in Texas...don't know if the equipment still generates them or not. Might take too much heat and energy. Or, could be, the last model broke the mold!!
hahahahahah, very funny comment, G.

I agree.
I confess, though, that the one mac I had many years ago I hated because I had always used a PC at work and still did, and never could figure out the works in the thing. I bought it from a friend who was upgrading, and because my sis always said mac's were it. And, I believe it.
Only, I guess it's like learning to use a really old stereo system, and getting confronted with a new, cool one--the old one is the one you can use.
I gladly gave my ex custody of it. However, I remain convinceable!

hi shar,
> However, I remain convinceable!

> Sharnot to try to convince, but ...
fwiw ... ...year ago i bought a 800mHz G4 flat-panel imac and got my dad's 933mHz P3 dell dimension 4100.
the dell runs xp pro and the imac, os x.
both run off a cable modem from a wireless ethernet router ... ... both see identical separate isp access.(i know, i know ... ... i'm taking lexapro for it ...)
i have been running them side-by-side:
i web browse, e-mail, word process, image process, collect music, store everything, upload/download from various servers and keep up with this message board on both simultaneously.i've used a variety of e-mail clients, word processors, image apps on both machines, including ms office and appleworks on both.
when i have had a problem with one of them i can get tech support with the other one.
(i have not been dxed ocd yet ... ...)
they have run Very comparably .... .... .... each has a few very minor advantages over the other ... ... no clear superiority.
but people have devotional loyalties to their computer system stronger than religion! ... the deeply computer-committed think i'm insane! ... ... ...even the ones who have no idea about my lex habit.
( ... and i failed my gp's test for bp)
i got the sales order with the dell, so i know what dad paid for it and the imac Is 6 months newer (not inconsequential),
... but the imac was less expensive
and it can burn dvds..(~"6 months newer")..i enjoy being "bi-platform-al" ... ... apple's unix-based os x was a whole learning curve on its own ... i had to read a book ... ... not that xp was any party ... but i got used to them ... ... kind of like the acclimation SEs for lex: bad at first, but fades away to nothing if you can hang in there.
the dell will provide diversity and storage for a long time ... i put a 120GB drive in it ...
but i predict that the next time i buy a computer it'll be an apple
.... that G5 looks interesting ... 64-bit processing.and the windows os is so much less secure compared to the imac ... .... but they're behind the router now, so ... ...
