Posted by mist on August 18, 2002, at 13:09:17> It obviously is important to those of use who've commented on it. Refraining from using all caps makes a difference in how readable the board is and ensures that one person's posts won't stand out more than others of equal priority. In that way, it helps to create an atmosphere of respect and support for all. This is standard internet etiquette, which wouldn't have been established and widely adopted if it didn't serve a significant purpose. I've never even heard of it being questioned anywhere but here.

It may not be so important to you, but please don't be sarcastic or post anything that could lead others to feel put down:

You're welcome.
I agree with Shar (and you) that opinions are welcome but they shouldn't be expressed unsupportively.
I also believe that if someone doesn't want to read or respond to a particular thread, or particular posts in the thread, they don't have to. But to denigrate the subject matter or the views of other posters for being concerned with a particular topic is unsupportive and uncivil. If everyone were to do that it would be a free-for-all.
This is the end of the thread.
