mean you consider it civil? I thought it was sarcastic and non-supportive. Responding sarcastically to someone about using an icepick on his ears seems horribly cruel to me. Have I misinterpreted something? Please clarify. thanks :-)

I am thinking that it was intended to be humorous? (since the FDA clearly doesn't suggest this as a method for making oneself deaf) :)I think the question is what needs further explanation. . .

Thanks for your reply Lini. It was very kind of you to take the time. Sarcasm is not really humour though is it? I think it is unkind to make jokes about something that could cause pain or injury to another person. Like if someone posts and asks how to kill himself, would it be okay to make a joke about FDA approved nooses? I don't think so. Some people with Psych disorders do engage in self-mutilation and I think erring on the side of caution and kindness is in order. Just my opinion :-)

I didn't think it was sarcastic, which implies "an intentional inflicting of pain":

I agree that it wasn't supportive, but I didn't think it was clearly unsupportive, either.
